Clara Olive Senff Bowe (born in Sedro Woolley 3/26/11) was the middle child of local Anacortes residents Guy & Gladys Mansur Senff (since 1914). She left town after graduating high school at AHS in the 1920s. She lived in Seattle at the Emerson Apts. on 8th St. after her job at the local bank ended with the Great Depression years. She worked for the HOLC for three years, saving everyone's homes by giving the money to the people, not the bank. The government homeowners loan corporation was a better idea than govt. bailouts of corporate criminals who caused the problem in the first place to profit from the misery of 99% of the world. She lived in the Lowell Apts. then worked for Standard Oil for three years and then in CA for three years, then worked as an administrative secretary for General Telephone in Santa Monica CA for 20 years until retiring in the 1970s and moving back home to Anacortes where her mom Gladys Senff eventually entered San Juan Nursing Home, leaving their home on 23rd and R that was bought with the 1K money they got from urban renewal who took their familiy's homes near the skate park in the 60s. Her sister Jennie Senf f LeMaister married Clyde LeMaister , born on these islands, Samish and French Canadian. He worked at the plywood mill and was an avide huntsman and fisherman and a jack of all trades. He grew a great garden every year too. Her brother Les Senff was a fisherman and his wife Scotty and he were members of the local Eagles, and their families still reside here. The story of Pearl Harbor and her being sent there a year later to Hawaii with 100 secreatries secretly and they could not tell their parnets is part of the story in teh memoirs. REad on and enjoy! Calra will be 101 and we will host a library circle room birthday bash for anyhone interested. Thanks andi bowe ,Clara's daughter. |
