My name is andi bowe, and I am in my last year of PhD study in Education & Leadership, Self-Designed. I attended Loyola University in Los Angeles as one of Loyola's first Lady Engineers with Early Entrance, Honors at Entrance and throughout my college years as a two year recipient of a National Honor Society Scholarship after graduating as The Notre Dame Academy Girls' High School's Class of 69 Valedictorian. I graduated from Oregon State College with High Scholarship after two years in General Engineering, minoring in Nuclear Rx Technology, and operating a nuclear negative reactivity reactor on campus, also majoring in Psychology and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1974, spent thirty years in action research raising and homeschooling five children. Then I returned to formal education in 2004, obtaining a Masters in Education specializing in Instructional Technology from Grand Canyon Universeity online with an A average in one year and went directly into Walden. I was set back last summer on my third KAM, KAM I, when my assessor withdrew after I had already finished the KAM. I am hoping working with Dr. Henry will help me to complete this requirement, although I have not heard back yet from Walden about some questions I am having as regards theorists allowed to be used in my KAMs. I have finished 8448, the qualitative side of research, and am doing 8438 this quarter. Although I took statistics in a Psychology/Engineering Major in the 70s, I am very frustrated with the lack of awareness of new paradigms in quantum physics and brain-based research that seem to me to indicate that repeatability should no longer be considered a measure of validity in scientific research, as we now know that the observer affects their observations directly through their personal belief systems, even when we try to avoid bias. Only the SPSS programs have been added in since then it seems to me, and these projects are what I did by hand in two semesters of statistics in the 70s. I did not like this program and it caused my computer to crash last quarter when I loaded it, so i withdrew even though I had a solid B and it was the last week to withdraw. I have five children, a 98 year old mom, and I am Director of my own non-profit research institute online, csiri.org. As part of my own ongoing research in systems science, I have carried on the work of my mentor and friend, Dr. Fred Bernard Wood. I am currently working on a video submission to Walden in the new social change contest, and am busy writing community partnership grants to effect positive social change. I hope to found inter-generational learning centers I call MOM'SOS in towns across the nation and the world, utilizing systems theories and mastery orientation to change education to match new paradigms. This quarter I hope to begin working on my dissertation proposal in a qualitative critical feminist, postmodern paradigm, as soon as I fulfill the requirements. I am already writing my proposal and looking for the right committee members to match my chosen paradigm. As a student from fourth grade to graduating high school with Sherwood Music School in Chicago in a correspondence course to be a piano teacher, a poet, a musician, and author of over 60 books on lulu.com. I believe in the mystical and magical part of human experience and wish to change education to include choice and freedom, music, dance, and art as the basis of human experience, and to use technology and media to give creativity a chance to blossom once again in a lifetime voyage on a Ship of Discovery as a metaphor for learning and teaching with my Design by TEAMS methodology and as a new paradigm with a new way of assessment based on portfolios and self-designed rubrics. I am very interested in working with anyone interested in these issues, perhaps including them in my grant proposals and CO-PIs if interested, or as mentors to help spread the framework of workshops I offer to the world as a solution to global issues. I look forward to working with all the great students here at Walden that I will meet this quarter and at my last residency I plan to attend in November in Seattle. I am very dedicated to social change. I live in WA state in the beautiful San Juan Islands, where orca and eagle dance and play. Blessings and Thank you for being here andi bowe |
